Page:Business Standards for Sustainable Tourism —
Project Purpose
The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) do not list sustainable tourism as a separate goal. However, several of the SDG’s have their application in the tourism Industry.
Tourism, both globally and regionally can have severe negative impacts on local communities, natural resources, climate and economies. Tourism is strongly linked to travel. Therefore, sustainable travel and transportation will be taken into account. The same applies to accommodation services (lodging) etc.
Globally we see the realization in the tourism industry that changes are necessary to not only meet the demands of local communities to be able to receive tourists but also utilize tourism to achieve a positive impact on those communities. Tourism can be both a threat and an opportunity.
The aim of the project is to clearly define sustainable tourism, as well as to set parameters for what can and what should not be considered sustainable tourism.
With the help of the standards created in this project, it should be possible to differentiate sustainable from non-sustainable tourism.
These standards can also assist buyers of tourism products and services to make choices with a certain amount of certainty that what they buy can be regarded as sustainable.
Project Scope
The project is to produce definitions, standards and guidelines on sustainable tourism. It does not deliver a certification or labeling system.
The project will also deliver components of future recommendations to governments to facilitate and promote sustainable tourism in their constituencies
The project will take into consideration work which has been produced by UN/CEFACT on Experience Programs being a subset of sustainable tourism products.

Page:eCert-Guide —
Project Purpose
UN/CEFACT delivered the e-Certificate several years ago. Many countries have implemented this and are successfully exchanging E-certificates. However, the implementation of the G to G exchange mechanism is complicated due to a lack of harmonization and standardization which is costly and time consuming.
In 2018 IPPC introduced a tailor-made e-Cert platform called e-Phyto hub. Two operational instruments have been implemented; a hub and a generic web-based system. The E-Phyto hub offers a standardized method for exchanging these certificates. The situation to date is that both direct (country to country, outside the Hub) and indirect interactions (via the Hub) exist. The purpose of this project is to develop an implementation guide that describes and gives guidance to implementation which is on the one hand hub compliant and on the other hand still facilitates direct communications which is less costly. The aim is to facilitate a standardized implementation in countries which wish to implement e-Certification.
Project Scope
The project team is expected to produce the e-Cert implementation guide which should be able to be used by governments implementing the UN/CEFACT e-Cert standard. The project shall develop a solution which is compatible with both the e-Phyto hub as well as country to country direct exchange outside the ePhyto hub. It will -next to exchange of Phyto certificates- be helpful for other certificates which are likely to have electronic equivalents in the near future next to existing paper certificates (Food (Codex Alimentarius) and Live Animals (OIE)). The implementation guide does not warrant a change in the existing UN/CEFACT E-cert technical artifacts.
Based on the implementations in use ,the implementation guide shall be based on Webservices Description Language (WSDL), a free, open standard. -

Page:eQuality Certificate —
Project Purpose
The purpose of the project is to create the business models and business class diagrams for documenting the business scenarios and business transactions involved in the issuing and the exchange of the electronic quality certificate. The process is described by several use cases: The producer/trader send a request for obtaining an e quality certificate. This involves the declaration of the product and production specifications to the issuing authority; The producer/trader retrieves an issued e quality certificate from the issuing authority; The exchange of the e quality certificate between the involved business partners and authorities. The e quality certificate is a unique document that is issued by an authority, and the document states that the product meets certain qualification criteria. The document is signed and unique marked by the issuing authority. The e quality certificate is protected against falsifications. Also the exchange processes of the e quality certificate is providing protection against fraude with the certificate.
Project Scope
The objective of this project is to standardise the business processes, the business transactions and the information entities of request, the issuing and the exchange of the the electronic exchange of the e quality certificate along the supply chain. The project will describe the business process for the electronic exchange of - Data involved in the process of requesting and issuing an electronic quality certificate between the producer / trader and the issuing authority, vice versa, and - the exchange of the e quality certificate along the supply chain. The project will focus on the e quality certificate for agricultural products, both of plant and animal origin. The supply chain consists of all parties involved from farmer – fisherman, including cooperatives and producer organisations, packers and traders, processors up to the retailers, including the service providers and authorities. The data involved in the request of an e quality certification message contains: - information about the product (type, purpose, quantity, quality, identification) , production process, location and party and purpose of the certificate (ie. export to country X) The e quality certificate contains data about the related product and the administrative data of the certificate, (date of issue, inspection, etc; the certificate ID, inspector and an electronic signature of the authority.) The relation between the physical product instance and the assigned e quality certificate for this product instance will be maintained along the lifecycle of the product instance. The certificate is used by the producer / trader to prove the product qualifications in case of export or for other business processes. The certificate is used by the export control authority and by the (international) trade partners.

Page:Experience Programs Technical Artefacts —
Project Purpose
The purpose of this project is to develop technical artefacts on experience programs (EPs).
EPs are being offered more and more in the travel and tourism domain not only locally and regionally but also globally. Digital information on such programs allows established tourism operators, travel agencies and virtually anybody to access and benefit from them.
In the autumn of 2017, the Travel/ Tourism Domain of UN/CEFACT started the Green Paper project to present EPs as an emerging tourism trend. The Green Paper was published in April 2019.
This project shall add the necessary technical artefacts to the BRSs of “Small-scaled Lodging House Travel Product Information Process and Small-scaled Lodging House Reservation Information Process” by considering the deliverables from the work of the Green Paper project.
Project Scope
This project will update the above mentioned BRSs based on the work of the EPs Green Paper project.
Relevant Data, including categories and definitions, of EPs taken from the Green Paper and the other existing cases will have to be harmonized into the UN/CEFACT Core Component Library, eventually with new additions.
This project will further develop a Technical Implementation Guide in order to describe how this information is to be used in the above-mentioned BRSs or eventually in the related messages. This will facilitate software developers to “build in” EPs into existing or newly developed reservation systems which will be used by tour operators, travel agencies, any EPs suppliers as well as booking websites. This will ensure that EPs are correctly categorized and traded to satisfy customer demand.

Page:Green Paper on Sustainable Tourism - Experience Programs —
Project Purpose
The project is to research basic and more extensive requirements for developing rural tourism as standalone activity and more likely as rural component of urban tourism. The working title for these combined activities could be Experience Programs (EP).
Tourism in this paper is not only regarded as an activity in itself but also as component of developing and (re)vitalizing certain areas with tourism potential without disruption of natural or cultural resources. This work is regarded as contribution to UN sustainable development goal No. 17.
EP, at this stage, could be major component of emerging tourism, which visitors might enjoy in a local area or areas of a country or regions. EP could be composed of localized events or activities and might be different from area to area or country to country, which might function to vitalize or revitalize the area or areas.
Some Asian Pacific countries, like India and Japan, have been studying EP or rural tourism in their local areas, and they are sure that in any country rural tourism might expand significantly in the future.
Project Scope
In the project the following items will be well surveyed and discussed to create the Green Paper.
- Getting information on EP, tourism to less developed areas, rural tourism to as many as possible areas, or countries and finding global trends of EP.
- What local information could be identified to provide better visitor experience in local (including urban) or regional areas
- To identify how rural tourism should be facilitated
- How encourage global experts on business and technology join the work
- To identify possible future work after creation of the Green Paper

Page:RASFF —
Project Purpose
In 2012-2013, UN/CEFACT developed the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF). The resulting data requirements were published in the Core Component Library and the UN/CEFACT RASFF schema. However, the BRS did not seem to receive its final approval and was therefore never officially published. The standard therefore exists and is being used; however, it is not correctly published on the website because it is missing its official, finalized BRS.
The project will therefore enquire with the 2013 team for any existing material and put together a BRS which will correspond with the existing deliverable on the website.
