Project purpose

The current, complete Cross-Industry Invoice (CII) covers all supply chain operations and takes into consideration all potential complexities of any industry. The deliverable also accommodates any mode of transport.  The resulting deliverable is rather large and complex and can deter some companies – notably MSMEs – from picking up the standard.

This project aims to develop a subset of the CII that will be functional for a majority of operations and compatible with regulatory requirements in a majority of countries. This would strip away the industry-specific elements and produce a generic invoice that could be used as a basis for international trade operations. It is hoped that this lighter subset would be easier for organizations to implement and exchange with others. It would be suggested that any extensions to cover industry-specific elements either use directly the complete CII or they make extensions solely based on the CII.

Project scope

This project aims to develop a subset of the CII as a generic invoice that would be used as a simplified basis for international trade operations. It is expected that this subset will also make subsets of the related code lists.

It is expected that there will be no additions to the CII as a result of this project; the objective is to make a subset of the existing CII. The resulting artefacts will be based on the existing CII BRS.

Based on this work, further “light” versions of the other cross industry family of deliverables may be proposed as future projects.
