Relevant SDG targets:

Project Purpose

The former Project: Business Standards for Sustainable Tourism (P1078) developed the white paper, which was approved by the Bureau and then Plenary of UNCEFACT in November 2023. The project has categorized T/T Domain into 10 sectors to identify the ‘Business Standards’ for each sector developed out of the goals and targets of UNSDGs. The standards could be applied for each travel related company or a traveler himself to self-assess the maturity level of sustainability of its or his actual practices. This proposed project is intended to enhance the white paper by further improving the deliverables. In this it is described that there remain some important but difficult issues unsolved nor studied, partly because of limited time frame to discuss and lack of wider expertise to fulfill. And it is found that however hard a travel/tourism related company could improve its maturity level of sustainability, it would not be easy to let it known by consumers or travelers. There needs to be some good way for this task. This project will try to give certain solutions to those issues described above by taking time and getting expertise of the world experts. And in this present situation it could be expected that the recommendation 49, namely, Transparency at Scale after its formal approval might help solve the relevant issues.

Project Scope

All of the tasks described below could be regarded as in-scope activities. The project will improve the deliverables of P1078 and consider the unsolved issues of the project to give appropriate solutions on them. The self-assessment system on sustainability of any travel / tourism product including an experience program, or practices performed by a travel / tourism related company or a traveler will be further considered to realize the better system and its visibility by consumers developed by the project. And the recommendation 49 will be well studied to improve the assessment system itself. The information with reference to the concept of Wellbeing of any individual of travelers and the contribution to Circular economy to save natural resources will be communicated well between suppliers and consumers.

Project Deliverables

Deliverable 1: The white paper of P1078 could be enhanced by improving solutions to such the issues left unsolved as follows: 1) How to assess a multiple layered product or packaged travel product 2) How to improve the self-assessment of a product by getting appropriate reviews of consumers Deliverable 2: Enhancing consumers’ visibility of UNCEFACT T/T Domain self-assessment system: How to make it known by consumers that the self-assessment of a travel related company, etc. has been following the guidelines, etc. developed by the project. Deliverable 3: Compliance with the Recommendation 49: The deliverables should be harmonized with the concept of Recommendation 49, Transparency at Scale. Deliverable 4: The concept of Wellbeing and Circular economy will be well communicated between suppliers and consumers: There could be appropriate business standards in UNSDGs considering the concept of Wellbeing and Circular economy necessary for the T/T Domain companies or travelers.

Exit Criteria

For all deliverables, the deliverables are approved by the Bureau and the Plenary.
