Project Purpose

The project’s purpose is to define the required information that could be exposed by tracking and monitoring devices linked to containerized goods. This could be used by private sector partners or by any cross-border agencies such as plant and veterinary agencies, hazardous, pharmaceutical and illegal goods control, customs and regulatory authorities in order to improve the data availability within multimodal transport and logistics operations.

Project Scope

Smart containers are taking the digital age of shipping one step further beyond paperless processes by embracing the Internet of Things (IoT) to support enhanced decision-making by the various sectoral stakeholders. The aim of this project is to define the information that could be transmitted by smart containers in support of decision making by private sector partners and cross-border agencies. This information will be collected by smart devices which can communicate with authorized partners.
