Project Purpose

The purpose of the project is to enable geospatial information to be represented in Core Components by means of Core Components Technical Specification, CCTS. Geographical data and information has an implicit or explicit relation with a location relative to the earth. This location can be expressed as features such as point, line, or polygon feature, in 2D or 3D. Each feature is defined by a (set) of coordinates.

Project Scope

The project will define the representation format for geospatial coordinates. The project will explore if the current representation forms in the CCTS are sufficient or if new data types will be required. If so, the project will update the data type catalogue.

Project Deliverables

The deliverables from this project will include: • Guidance on how to apply existing data types to represent geospatial information. • Identification of potential limitations of using the existing data types • If needed, update of the data type catalogue with the required new data types and guidance on how to use these.

Exit Criteria

• Guidance on appropriate use of geospatial representation • Updated data type catalogue, if found necessary

Project Team Membership and Required Functional Expertise

Membership is open to UN/CEFACT Experts with deep knowledge in core components modelling, understanding of geospatial information and awareness of implementers’ expectations.

Head of Delegation Support

• Netherlands • Tbd • Tbd

Geographical Focus

The geographic focus of the project is global.

Initial Contributions

The contributions submitted with this proposal include: • ISO 19118:2011 Geographic information -- Encoding • Core Components Data Type Catalogue • UN/CEFACT eCROPS project • CCTS version 2.01

Resource Requirements

Participants in the project shall provide resources for their own participation. The existence and functioning of the project shall not require any additional resources from the UNECE secretariat. Required resources include project management, experts in the artefacts listed in chapter 2, machine-processable publication format design (chapter 3).
