Code Lists and Identifiers Guide for the Garment and Leather Sector Project
Project PurposeThe project’s purpose is to publish a reference guide for code lists and identifiers for the Garment and Leather sector, which can be used for information entities residing in the textile and leather data model. The code lists and identifiers can be internal (developed and published by UNECE/UNCEFACT or external (developed and published by other standards developing organizations.
Project ScopeCodes and identifiers are essential components of any Machine-To-Machine information flow. They have been developed over time to facilitate the flow of standardized data that can be easily validated for correctness to ensure consistent semantics (e.g., plain text versus coded text). The scope of the project is to identify relevant code lists and identifiers and not to identify any missing code values. For internal code lists and values the existing procedures for requesting codes, published by UN/CEFACT or by other standard development organizations must be followed. The proposed project is, therefore, to develop a reference guide with the following objectives: • The scope of the project is international garment and footwear industry, cross-border and domestic. • References will be included for pointing to the actual code lists and their values rather than including directly in the guidance document for maintenance reasons? • Development of a reference guide which provides most important codes and identifiers, publicly available, including a linkage to the information entities in the textile and leather data model for which they can be used. The reference document may include reference to glossaries, if available, which provide a definition of terms used in code values.
Project DeliverablesDeliverable 1 - A reference guide for code lists and identifiers for the Garment and footwear sector
Exit CriteriaExit Criteria for Deliv. 1: Public Review logs demonstrating all comments have been satisfactorily resolved; Final document ready for publication.
Project Team Membership and Required Functional ExpertiseExpertise in the different stages of the value chains of the garment and footwear sector, knowledge about code lists and identifiers used within the respective value chains In addition, Heads of Delegations may invite technical experts from their constituency to participate in the work. Experts are expected to contribute to the work based solely on their expertise and to comply with the UN/CEFACT Code of Conduct and Ethics and the policy on Intellectual Property Rights.
Geographical FocusThe geographical focus of the project is global.
Initial ContributionsThe following contributions are submitted as part of this proposal. It is understood that these contributions are only for consideration by the Project Team and that other participants may submit additional contributions in order to ensure that as much information as possible is obtained from those with expertise and a material interest in the project. It is also understood that the Project Team may choose to adopt one or more of these contributions “as is”. • Initial draft of the reference guide for code lists and identifiers for textile and leather sector. • UNECE/UNCEFACT Code Lists (UNCL). • UN Core Component Library (UNCCL). • UNECE Recommendations and Code Lists. • European Textile standard (eBIZ) published code lists. • Code lists and identifiers maintained and published by other standards. • UN/CEFACT Code Management User Guide, 8 March 2018.
Resource RequirementsParticipants in the project shall provide resources for their own participation. The existence and functioning of the project shall not require any additional resources from the UNECE secretariat
